Dr. Andrew Mitchell BM MD FRCP FESC FACC, was educated at Victoria College in Jersey and qualified in medicine in 1992 at Southampton University. In 1996 he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). His clinical training in cardiology took place in the Royal Cornwall Hospitals, Eastbourne General Hospital and Oxford University Hospitals.

Dr Mitchell has a strong academic interest and has been invited to lecture and publish internationally on aspects of arrhythmia management. He was awarded an MD by Kings College in 2004 for his thesis entitled “Modern device concepts for the management of atrial fibrillation”. He has published over 150 clinical papers, book chapters and abstracts on areas of clinical cardiology. In addition, he had edited six cardiology textbooks, including some of the leading handbooks in Europe for cardiology practical procedures.

As a consequence of his work Dr Mitchell was awarded a Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology in 2005, Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology in 2007 and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2010. During his time in Oxford he established the UK’s leading intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) service and demonstrates the technique during live interventional courses.

Dr Mitchell returned to Jersey in 2006 as Consultant Cardiologist with the intent to transform the cardiology service for the Island. He maintains a position as Honorary Consultant at Oxford University Hospitals where he is able to continue his academic and ICE interests and he is on the visitor faculty of The University of Southampton where he helps coordinate final year undergraduate medical teaching.

Dr Mitchell conceptualized and is co-director of Heart for Life, the first online heart screening service in the UK, provides an eHealth consulting service in Jersey and is founding director of two innovative Digital Health start-ups.
